What is it?
Crazy 8s (Simulated) is the algorithmic realization of the hallmark fast-paced ideation exercise from the Google Design Sprint methodology. Designed to break cognitive fixation and overcome default anchoring on the first acceptable answer, the protocol generates eight radically distinct, compact conceptual solutions in rapid succession. It then subjects the variants to an orthogonal diversity check, scoring and distilling the top two into immediate falsifiable experiments.
The Methodological Mechanism
The framework executes through four disciplined, rapid-fire phases:
1. Rapid Variation: Generates exactly eight fundamentally different conceptual approaches. Each concept is strictly capped at 18 words to enforce maximum conceptual density.
2. Diversity Verification: Explicitly isolates the unique architectural differentiator of each idea relative to the other seven.
3. Bivariate Selection: Rates each concept on a 1–5 scale across Novelty and Operational Feasibility, algorithmically identifying the top two candidates.
4. Immediate Experimentation: Defines a concrete, low-capital validation experiment and pass/fail criterion for each selected concept.
The Algorithmic Reactor Advantage
Human ideation sprints typically suffer from cognitive exhaustion: after generating two or three predictable concepts, teams default to minor superficial modifications. The Brainstorm Reactor framework enforces genuine conceptual breadth:
- Guaranteed Orthogonality: Scaffolds exploration across unrelated domain models, ensuring the eight concepts deploy fundamentally diverse operational mechanisms.
- Ruthless Compression: Eliminates narrative fluff, exposing the raw commercial logic of each candidate concept.
- Instant Experiment Scaffolding: Connects divergent thinking directly to lean empirical validation loops.
Boundary Limits & Trade-offs
Crazy 8s is an early-stage exploration heuristic. It is deliberately not designed for deep architectural detailing, regulatory compliance filing, or comprehensive multi-year financial modeling.
Strategic Application Fields
High-value deployment during agile sprint planning, product feature ideation bottlenecks, conversion-rate optimization brainstorms, and rapid campaign repositioning.
